FlexiDesk began with a simple problem: laptops allow us to work almost anywhere, yet finding a comfortable and practical workspace is not always easy. Working from a sofa, chair or temporary location often means balancing a laptop on your knees or leaning forwards into an uncomfortable position, while a permanent desk is not suitable for every home or lifestyle.
Created in response to the changing ways we work and study, FlexiDesk offers a more adaptable solution. Its stable, adjustable and portable design turns a wide range of seats into practical workspaces—giving people greater freedom to work or study comfortably, wherever they are.
Designed around a real problem
Laptops allow us to work almost anywhere, but the spaces around us are not always designed for comfortable working.
Using a laptop on a sofa or chair often means balancing it on your knees or leaning forward into an uncomfortable position. A traditional desk can provide a better setup, but it requires permanent space and is not practical for everyone.
FlexiDesk was created to bridge that gap—providing a stable, adjustable workspace that can be used with a wide range of seats, without requiring floor-standing legs or permanent furniture.
The Founder
I’m Liam Sheard, an apprentice design and manufacturing engineer from the West Midlands, with a passion for product development and practical problem-solving.
As both an apprentice and a former student who continued studying throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, I experienced first-hand how quickly education and working life could change. The pandemic transformed not only the way we work and study, but also where we do it—whether from home, shared accommodation or other temporary spaces.
Although laptops allow us to work almost anywhere, I recognised that finding a comfortable and practical workspace was still difficult. This experience inspired me to create FlexiDesk.
Using my experience in CAD, engineering design and prototyping, I developed the original concept through multiple design iterations—turning an everyday problem into a unique, body-weight-stabilised workstation.
My aim is to make comfortable working and studying more accessible, wherever people choose—or need—to work.
Designed and developed in the UK
FlexiDesk has been designed and developed in the West Midlands, progressing from an initial concept into a fully working prototype.
Through multiple design and prototype cycles, each version has been evaluated and refined to improve stability, strength, adjustability, portability and ease of assembly.
CAD modelling, 3D printing and practical testing have all played an important role in the development process. Feedback from real users continues to help shape the product as it moves towards wider production.
